ESAFORM Conferences
The purpose of these conferences is to bring together scientists working on all material forming processes with all types of materials.
If you are interested to organize an ESAFORM conference, please contact the President or any other member of the Board of Directors for an informal discussion and have a look at the guidelines.
Next Conference (ESAFORM 2025)
The 28th International ESAFORM Conference on Material Forming – ESAFORM 2025 – will be organized by the University of Salerno and the University of Calabria, on May 6 – 9, 2025, in Paestum, Italy.
The conference will cover numerous disciplines related to material forming including all kinds of materials (metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites), processes (traditional and new forming processes), scales (nano, micro, macro, and meso), and approaches (data-driven, modeling, simulation, analytical, experiments, …).
It will bring together specialists from academia and industry worldwide to discuss the latest technological innovations and recent achievements in material forming.

First conference in brief
The First Conference – Sophia Antipolis, France – March 17/20, 1998
The first ESAFORM Conference was organised by the Ecole des Mines de Paris and held at Sophia Antipolis, France. The aim of that conference was to gather experts working on different materials and processes with various approaches, in order to stimulate scientific exchanges.
The final number of participants taking part was 137, coming from 23 European countries. The number of contributed papers was 71 of which 39 were invited speakers and also nineteen posters were presented.
The conference was sponsored by the Conseil Général des Alpes-Maritimes, the French Ministry of Education, Research and Technology, as well as by the Ecole des Mines de Paris, plus two private companies, Sciences and Computers Consultants, and Transvalor, all to whom we send our gratitude.
Two Round Tables were organised on:
- New Scientific and Technical Trends in Material Forming : Nine informal networks have been created on the different topics and Education
- Education and Diffusion of Knowledge
The main conclusions were:
- to collect information about existing courses on Material Forming and identify those open to other European countries.
- to use the Socrates networks for the exchanges of students.
- to promote the existing programs (EUPOCO, NATO ASI …).
- to create advanced short courses in connection with the ESAFORM annual meeting.
